Week #8 Thing #20

I was blown away by the wealth of information provided on the teacher librarian network. I was able to find so many great resources from all areas of education. I was particularly excited about a review done by a third grader on the book Fancy Nancy. During the month of February my classroom will be doing a subunit on this series and I thought that this format of book review would be pretty fantastic for my higher achieving students. I was so fascinated about the technology that she used for the video that I searched and explored it online; the cartoon format was just a great way for kids to express their creativity. I also joined a Harry Potter discussion forum online that will not relate to my class, but I will enjoy thoroughly.

Week 8 Thing #19

Sky Layers by Google earth was a super interesting and semi-creepy site! I couldn’t believe how many different ways which I could see my house, my grandfathers house, and my favorite Colorado vacation spots. However in terms of applying this technology my classroom, it would be so cool to show students panda refugees when we do our reading unit on A Little Panda. We could also look at pictures in real time of San Francisco when we read a story about two young girls growing up. I think that this could be a great way to set up our lesson so that students are engaged from the get go.

Week #8 Thing #18

this slideshare on rhyming would really help my begginning of year Kindergarrteners and my struggling kindergarteners to listen, veiw and interact in a way that would cemement a foundation of understanding about rhyming. It helps them to see how rrhyming works in a way that is fun and hands on. I would show this slideshare in my classroom as a way to introduce and reteach rhyming. It would be a great replacement for my powerpoints that I currently utilize. http://www.slideshare.net/bogeybear/finger-plays-rhymes-and-songs

Week 7 Thing #17

I was incredibly confused and frustrated with the podcasting. I was really excited to see sosme new thiings that I could get out to students including nursery rhymes, intitial sound songs and acativities and blending and segmenting activities. However, after about an hour and a half of trying to get through Audacity and figuring out RSS feeds that I could incorperate, I came to discover that another meduim such as voice thread, youtube or photo stories might be the route that I should take when it comes to helping my students.
