Week #7 Thing #16

I never knew there were such awesome instructional video feeds on Youtube! In my classroom I teach my kids the sign language symbols for all of the letters. I do this for two specific reasons, kinestetic learning application, and classroom management. This little video is fantastic, and shows my struggling students that if this little pumpkin can do it, they most certainly can!

Little Girl Sign Language

Week #6 Thing #15

I had a "stolen" idea that I heard about another Kindergarten teacher exploring! I thought it was great and wanted to see if it enhanced the learning of my students! My concept is "Blends all Around Us". I want students to be able to explore our school and find real world examples of blends all around them! When I say blends I am not thinking smoothie but (ST, SP, FL, PL ect.) During our lunch break I was very excited to see how easy it was to find and capture blends. It was really fun too! I think that this will be a project that, with intense teacher guidance may excite and engage my kiddos.

Week #6 thing # 14

I like voice thread! I have so many ideas that will enhance my students learning in terms of collaboration, book knowledge, and story elements! What a cool tool! Here is a voice thread that I created to teach my students about what they can do when they get a boo boo
What a fun tool for teaching! I even have a great youtube video feed in of a girl putting on a band aid!

Week #4 Thing #11

I was pretty confused by wordle. I could conceptualize and understand how it could be a very useful tool in classrooms, however, I was confused in the navigation.

Week 4 Thing #10

I like using the Delicious bookmarking tool to research ideas. I think that it is a great way to keep your resources while exploring other options. I could see this being a great tool for intermediate and secondary students to help organize the massive amounts of information they now have to sift through!

Week #3 Thing #9

Twitter is such a cool source of information! I think this is really what I was hoping the RSS feed was going to be like! I can really narrow down the information that i want to see in terms of what will benefit my classroom and my students. I can cut out the secondary teachers, and focus on creative and inspirational twitter accounts that focus on primary grades~ I think that I will use this tool!

Week #3 Thing #8

Here is a link to the blog that I posted on!
Learning is Messy
I thought that this was a great way to create, maintain and facilitate educational conversation about topics. I chose this blog because it was the most well organized and had the most interesting topics of conversation. I liked this topic because ti was the most heated, and I thought it was fascinating that no educator had asked students what they thought.... bottom line the Presidents speech (Which was the topic of discussion) was for students.
However, I did feel a little intimidated by the level of conversation, research and vocabulary my fellow bloggers used. It made me step up.

Week #3 Thing #7

I had a pretty mixed review about RSS feeds being streamed into my google reader. On one hand I did feel that if you were an avid reader of professional journals and did not have many specific questions as they relate educational topics; RSS feeds may just be a quick and easy way for you to access information from one particular website. However, as a new teacher, I am often searching for specific information and many sites that offer such specific information did not offer an RSS feed. I found that I spent more time searching for websites with RSS feeds than I did actually looking for pertinent information as it it pertains to my classroom. All in all RSS feeds within Google reader was not my favorite Web 2.0 tool.

Wiki and Google Docs Workshop

I can really see the wiki being an excellent tool to use with Kindergarten Parents. Although Kindergartners might be able to use the Wiki for links to games and educational websites, I truly feel like this tool would benefit the teacher parent communication within a classroom! Today I created a page on my Wiki which talked all about my fall festival! It offered game and craft suggestions, volunteer opportunities, Halloween themed snacks, and creative costumes! What a great time saving resource for parents to access!
Check it out!
My Wiki Homepage!

Week #5 Thing #12

These wiki's seem really well organized, and seem like a great tool to help students become self starters and independent learners! I particularly enjoyed the Greeley West High School website, because not only did they have a wealth of information regarding school assignments and projects, but it also offered information about students, teachers, and all of the pet snakes in the building! I think having this personal information really helps students connect to their building, and teachers!

Week #2 Thing #5

Here is my tradecard!

Week #2 Thing #5

This tool is a fantastic way for students to share information personally, academically and creatively. I could see so many kids getting really into this medium of information distribution. The product is professional and beautiful, and the amount of work required is not teduis.

Week #2 Thing #4 A

I love this photo of an early classroom. Could you imagine attempting to teach and reach all children in this sort of athomosphere? It really makes me think of teachers and their struggles during the early years of education. My first thought was, "This sure isn't a Fred Jones set up!" http://www.flickr.com/photos/marvinok/3920931765/
